NAILAB’S SEASON 6 APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!

Avatar AfriLabs Admin 15 February, 2017

Nailab, one of Kenya’s leading business incubators, is opening its doors to its 6 Batch of startups come July 2015. The incubator highligted that it has has been handpicking startups, since the month of March. Nailab officially opened a week open call for application on 5th June, and this will temporarily close from 12th June until 30th June to enable the judges assess applications.

Sticking to its commitment, Season 6 will be joining the program at the beginning of July. The handpicked startups and those who apply in the course of the week, who meet the criteria set,  will have a chance to pitch in 2 weeks to a panel of judges. This week’s application process will culminate with an “Open Pitch Friday” where various startups/ business enterprises will be called in to pitch their concepts to the Nailab crew and from those invited a shortlist will also be created as potential startups for incubation.

Sam Gichuru, CEO & Founder Nailab, said in a statement “ It’s important to note that creating innovative solutions is a continuous process.  It’s through sharing with like minds that one continues to refine an idea/ solution. The open pitch arena will help entrepreneurs to critically analyze the solutions they are/ intend to provide and maximize the best offering with the development of their prototypes.”

Due to the high requests for applications, the process will then reopen on June 30th and will go on until the month of September. With this in mind the cycle for entry will now have startups joining the program every 3 months.  Key to note that each cohort will  go for the full 6 months of incubation in the program. This will mean that they will be able to take in 4 batches in a year unlike the previous 2 batches with each cycle feeding into the previous to share market and product development experiences.

Since its inception in 2011, Nailab has seen over 35 startups grow into viable businesses. It has over the last 4 years worked with 40 startups across different sectors. It’s keen on delivering world class startups that can compete at a global scale through creating an environment that inspires and stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship.

Through a partnership with ICTA, Nailab seeks to support more that 30 startups by 2016 . To date the incubator has seen 2 of its startups acquired by leading corporates and 1 join a leading accelerator in the Silicon Valley. As a leader in the incubation space, Nailab is keen on catalyzing startups’ growth through the “Enterprise Kenya” Initiative which will see many local startups access global markets for trade and also create opportunities for local procurement processes.
